The best recipes in life are the ones that come from your own family, I find. No one can cook quite like mom, dad, or grandma, right? The foods we eat as children brings us comfort all our lives, giving us a sense of security.
My nanny is the best cook in all of Channel-Port aux Basques, Newfoundland. Packed away by our microwave is a little army green box, filled with recipes my mother has gathered over the years. Most of the hand written ones were what my mother worked very hard to put together from Nanny's completely from scratch and experience recipes. My mom doesn't work well with the "a bit of this" and "a bit of that" instructions. She's more of the scientific thinker, so she got Nanny to make everything while measuring what she grabbed out, and wrote it all down.
So, like my family, I'm a bit of a kitchen ninja, when I make food from scratch. There are some great recipes in that army green box that I think no family should ever go without tasting. So, I'll be putting some of them up here, along with tips and tricks for kitchen design, different types of appliances, etc. It'll probably get better as I get older, but that's just something to look forward to.
